What Should I Put on a Funeral Thank You Card

Thank-You-Watercolour-Forget-Me-Nots7

Sending a thank you card to funeral guests is a really great way to show your gratitude. But it can feel tricky knowing what to write.

To help you out, we've created this guide to funeral thank you card wording and etiquette.

Funeral Thank You Card Etiquette

When planning a funeral, thank you cards may be the last thing on your mind, and you are not obliged to send them. However, if you do decide to send thank you cards, there are some basic etiquette rules to follow.

If someone kindly contributed financially towards the wedding, it is considered good etiquette to thank them for this. However, you should not include the amount that they gave, as this can be seen as rude.

You should also acknowledge other types of support that friends and family have provided. Anything from helping with funeral planning, sorting out your funeral stationery, or just being extra considerate during this tough time. Use a thank you card to show them how much you appreciate all that they have done.

You may also want to consider your time frame when sending out thank you cards. Around 2-4 weeks after the funeral is the usual time that people send cards. Don't worry if it takes you longer, your loved ones will understand that this can be a difficult task.

Before you send out your cards, you can also get prepared. Perhaps write up a list of everyone who helped out with the funeral, so that you don't forget to give them an extra big 'thank you'. You may also want to write down all of your guests' addresses as this will make sending your cards so much easier.

Don't forget to also make the most out of any friends and family willing to help out. You don't have to face this task on your own.

Funeral Thank You Card Wording

Once you've sorted out your etiquette, it's time to consider what you really want to say.

Make sure to specifically mention any gift or donation that your guest gave as this will make your thank you cards less generic and more thoughtful.
