How to Work From Home With Kids
Establish a routine
The first step in being able to successfully work at home with kids is to establish a routine that works for both them, and you. To prevent both you and your kids from mindlessly snacking, set up meal times throughout the day. This will be beneficial for your health, as you will get some much needed time away from the computer screen, and won't be having unnecessary nibbles. You may want to prepare your meals the night before or in the morning, to ensure your time throughout the day is used efficiently. Play time is also an essential for kids! Set them up with a wide range of toys to keep themselves occupied, and be sure to join in every once in a while. If you have younger kids, be sure to add nap time into this routine. This will allow you some time to seriously buckle down and get things done. Remember to be realistic with your schedule. You may struggle to fit everything that you had planned in - but that's okay!Reward Systems
Having a reward system with your kids is perfect for this situation. You can reward your kids for keeping themselves entertained and behaving well whilst you're at home. The positive reinforcements will motivate them to keep up these good behaviours. Featured Product: Unicorn Magic - Personalised Reward Chart & Reusable Stickers A reward chart is the perfect way to do this. Every day your child will collect stickers for their good behaviour, and at the end of the week will get a treat. Such as pocket money or a movie night.Set boundaries
Don't be afraid to set boundaries! You can't be there for your kids all the time, and you need to let them know this. Explain that you will be spending most of your day working, and that it is important for you to have alone time. Reassure them that you will still be there to play with them, and that you won't be far away.Have a dedicated workspace
Another tip that is sure to help you out is having a dedicated workspace to do all of your office work. You will find it hard to work if you're using your laptop on the sofa. Instead, set up a table, add a touch of desk stationery, and keep all your work related things together. It will help you get into the right head-space, and will keep your work and home life that little bit more separate! Featured Product: Be-Leaf In Yourself - Desk Planner If you have younger kids, be sure to set up your workspace in the same room that they will be spending most of their time, so you can keep an eye on them. For more tips on creating your workspace, check out our other helpful blog 'How to Create the Perfect Workspace'.Take breaks
Ensure that you are taking regular breaks, and that you are using this time to give your kids your attention. Play a game with them, or read them a book. This will keep you both happy, and ensure that you're still having quality time together. A 20 minute break every 2 hours will also break up your day into more manageable chunks.Let go of perfectionism
Some parents really struggle when working at home with their kids, as they want to be giving both their kids and their work 100%. This is not possible! During this period of working from home, you need to let go of perfectionism. This may mean that you do let your kids watch more TV than usual, or you let them have a few extra snacks throughout the day. This is okay! As long as you know that your kids are healthy, safe, and happy, then that's all that matters.A helping hand
If you live with your partner, you should also ask them if they are willing to split the kids time with you, so that you have more time for work. Splitting tasks will help you both stay sane when working from home! We hope that this blog has given you some useful ideas for how to work from home with kids! Check out our other blogs for more advice on working from home, and much more. How to Have a Cupcake Making Party

You can either choose to bake cupcakes with the children, or have them decorate pre-made cakes. It's completely up to you! To bake cupcakes, simply follow an easy chocolate or vanilla cupcake recipe. Featured Image: Catch my Party If you just want the kids to decorate the cakes, you will need a selection of sweets to create a toppings bar. Sweets such as smarties, chocolate chips, and even marshmallows are ideal. You will also need some delicious sprinkles in a colour to match the party, whether that's blue or rainbow! Mix things up by also decorating donuts and gingerbread men. To make things extra fun, why not hold a 'bake off' style competition or have a blindfolded cupcake contest!Food
Although everyone will probably be full of cupcakes, you will need some other nibbles at the party, too. Fresh fruit and vegetables with tasty dips will be a healthy option that everyone will love. For the drinks, a delicious milkshake is ideal. Add some cute dotty straws to complete the adorable cupcake party theme.Party Favours
Once all of the cake making is finished, send the little ones home with party favours! It's an amazing way to thank them for coming. Cupcake Boxes A cupcake box with one of their handmade cupcakes is the perfect party favour. Plus, the kids can also decorate the boxes as one of the party activities. Invitations
Whilst we love traditional paper invitations, we know that they sometimes aren't the best option. To stay eco-friendly, opt for e-invites, or simply drop everyone a text. It's super easy to do, and a better choice for the environment, too. There are plenty of free templates available online, so it doesn't have to be boring!Gifts
You may wish to inform guests that you would only like to receive eco-friendly gifts, or have a 'no gifts' rule. If you would like for your child to receive some gifts, subtly suggest items that your kids actually need, such as clothes or books.Venue
The best venue for an eco-friendly birthday party is your own home, as it's probably local for all of your child's friends! Alternatively, an outdoor venue is another great option, and can be decorated in cute ways. Hay bales for seats, and picnic blankets make for an adorable day. Featured Image: MATH Why not host an adorable teddy bears picnic in the park? It's so fun, and so cute, too!Food
The best food to serve is delicious homegrown fruit and veg, such as tasty strawberries, and salads - even homegrown chips! Whilst kids can love sweets and processed foods, you can't go wrong with delicious homemade meals. If you making a birthday cake or cupcakes, be sure to use free-range ingredients. You could also support local farms by buying their organic eggs. Featured Image: Chelsweets Serve your food onto reusable plates, and use biodegradable or metal cutlery.Party games
Some of the best eco-friendly party games are the easiest. Here are a few that we recommend: Musical Chairs All you'll need is a few chairs - something everyone has! Kids love this classic game, and it's sure to be a lot of fun. Charades We love charades! It's a great game for a smaller party, and so easy to do. DIY Pinata If you're feeling crafty, why not create your own DIY pinata. Fill with eco-friendly treats to complete!Eco-friendly Decorations
Decorating your venue in a sustainable way doesn't have to be difficult. Reuse We'd recommend to stay away from decorations that can't be reused, such as balloons, and opt for other alternatives. DIY party bunting made out of sustainable materials is a great option, and can be reused plenty of times. You could also decorate your venue with potted flowers and plants - it's a great way to also teach kids about the environment.Party favours
When it comes to party favours, ask yourself do you really need them? We'd advise you to ditch the goodie bags, and perhaps just send the kids home with a tasty slice of cake. If you do feel the need to give out treats, be sure to opt for paper goodie bags, over plastic ones. Featured Product: Bunny Tutu - Party Bag & Sticker - Pack of 10 Fill them up with toys or activities that kids can reuse - not just plastic toys that will just sit in a draw! We think that packets of seeds, friendship bracelets, and crayons are awesome gifts.Pass it on
Once the party is over, you can do your bit by donating any decorations to someone else, whether that's giving them away over Facebook, or donating them to a relative. Alternatively, keep them for next year! You never know when those bits could come in handy again. We hope you have enjoyed this blog, and thought of lots of awesome ideas for your own eco-friendly birthday party!
