Funeral Announcement Cards: What Should I Say?
Funeral announcement cards often serve two purposes. Not only do they inform people of the funeral venue, but they also break the sad news about somebody’s death.
Therefore, it can be difficult knowing the right words to say. You want something that is not only useful, as it lets guests know about the service details, but also incredibly thoughtful and delicate, too.
Here is our guide to funeral announcement card wording.
Introductory Sentence
At the top of your funeral announcement cards you may want to have an introductory sentence or phrase to properly announce the passing.
- 'The
family are sad to announce the passing of' - 'In loving memory of…'
- 'Celebrating the life of…'
Full Name
Underneath that include the full name of the deceased. You may also want to include any nicknames that they had, as well as their maiden name. Including as many details as possible makes sure the guests aren't getting confused about who has passed away.
Details of the Service
Then include the details of the service. You will want to include the location of the funeral service, as well as the date and time.
If you are having any sort of arrangement after the funeral, such as refreshments, make sure to also include the details of this.
Photograph
You may also wish to include a photograph of your loved one. Make sure it is a picture where they look happy so that people will remember their lovely smile.
Some people choose to include a photo from their younger years as well, which can be a sweet touch. It's completely up to you.
Poem
You may also wish to include lyrics from a favourite song or words from a poem.
This can be a lovely touch if the deceased was a big fan of music or poetry, and you may also choose to play this music or read this poetry at their funeral.
