How to Write a Thank You Note to a Teacher
Whether it's the end of the school year or you want to thank them for something specific, a heartfelt thank you note is a wonderful way to show gratitude to your teacher. But it can be difficult to know what to say! Here are our top tips on saying thank you to your superstar teacher.
Decide who will write the note
First, you need to decide who will write the note! Of course, if you are a student, you will probably be writing your own message. But if you're a parent, you may need to help out, depending on the age or writing level of your child. Parents writing thank you notes can still get their children involved by asking them what they love about their teacher and including what they say. Or, for toddlers, how about letting them 'sign' the note with a cute picture?
Set the tone
It's best to start your note with a respectful and traditional introduction, such as 'Dear Mrs. Smith'. But for the rest of the letter, you can get creative! Think about the personality of your teacher for inspiration on how to write the letter. You could keep the tone formal throughout or add in some humour with a funny phrase, such as "Thank you for putting up with me all year". Just make sure to be polite!
Make it personal
Tell your teacher what makes them special by mentioning specific ways in which they have helped you (or your child, if you are a parent). This will make your note really stand out as unique. For example, you might thank them for helping you understand a subject you struggled with before. You could also thank them for their positivity and encouragement.
Sign your note
Sign your message off with your name at the end. You can use phrases such as 'Sincerely', 'Kind Regards', and 'Yours Truly' to give your note a formal conclusion.
