Who Sits on the Top Table of a Wedding?
Who should sit at the top table at your wedding? There are no set rules, so you can get creative as you wish or stick to tradition.
Here are some ideas...
Follow Tradition
If you want both friends and family at the table, go with the traditional option. This includes the married couple, their parents, the best man, and the maid of honour.
This seating situation makes it easier for the wedding party to make their speeches, too.
The Family
We love the idea of a family top table! Sit with your parents, siblings and in-laws.
You can invite any members of the family you would like to the table – so whether that’s your aunt or uncle, step-sibling, or cousin, it's completely up to you.
We recommend you don’t invite too many people to sit around the table though, as this can make the situation tricky for your venues.
The Wedding Party
If you are very close with your friends, why not have a table for the wedding party? Surrounded by your friends (and their dates!), you’re sure to have a meal to remember.
The Sweetheart Table
If you’re struggling to decide who to have at your top table, you could opt for a modern ‘sweetheart table’. This just includes you and your partner, with the rest of your wedding party sat on other tables.
This is perfect for seeing your partner after the wedding, and a lovely to spend some quality time together as an official married couple!
Get creative
If you’re struggling to choose where to sit on the big day, why not sit around? By adding a couple of chairs to each table, you are free to move around and chat to everyone!
Don’t feel bad if you don’t get round to seeing everyone. You’ve got all night to socialise.
