Wedding evening invitation wording etiquette rules are much the same as day invitations, but with a few differences. Evening invitations are sent to guests who will only be coming to the latter part of your wedding celebrations. These invitations tell guests the time and location of your evening reception. They can have similar wording to the wedding invitations, and contain some of the same key information, like the date. Make sure it is clear that it’s an evening reception invitation, separate from the day invitation.

Most people will expect food to be served at an evening reception. If you are only serving light snacks, canapés, or no refreshments at all, then it’s a good idea to mention this. It is generally not acceptable to include a gift list; wait for your guests to ask.

We recommend you send your evening invitations at the same time as your day invitations. That way, people won’t be left wondering if they’ve been sent an invite at all.

It is becoming increasingly popular for wedding couples to tie the knot in more exotic or unusual locations. This decision means that it is going to cost guests lots of money to attend and is often not ideal as it means taking time off work or taking children out of school. As an alternative to putting guests under so much pressure they choose to ask very close family to go with them and have a big party to celebrate with lots of family and friends when they return home.

What type of invitation should I send?

There are no rules on what type of invitation you should send following a wedding abroad. With most of our customers opting for a 'beach themed invitation' to follow their 'beach themed wedding', more traditional invites seem to be less popular in this case. At The Card Gallery we have a wide range of Wedding Celebration invitations, most of which have a beach theme and can be personalised to suit your needs. Although you may think you are not holding your ‘party’ by the beach, it was still the theme of your wedding so it is nice to continue this theme all the way through.

 

If you are getting married in an unusual location or you simply want to use a photo that 'means something special to you' then you could opt for a ‘use your own photo’ or a ‘designed to suit your destination’ invitation.
