This is just enough time for you to prepare after the funeral, without giving you too many jobs to do at once. The funeral will also still be fresh in people's minds and they will be so grateful to receive a card.
Of course, if you don't feel up to writing cards soon after the funeral, you can wait as long as you like. It's better to send them late than never, and funeral attendees will always be happy to receive one.
